    Hey Matt-

    Just downloaded the update! Thanks!

    Question:

App seems to be working for all domestic text messages that I send and receive, but I just tried to send an international text to the UK (the receiving number is on O2 network) and it didn’t go through.

I tried both O2 service options as well, but neither one worked.

    Do you have any suggestions?

    Thanks!

    • Matt says:

R u putting in the phone number just like u would if u were in England? Ie no country code, just the local number

      try that,
      Matt

  2. Will says:

Yeah. Its an O2 mobile number so I just punched it in starting with 770 (because I guess all mobile numbers or personal numbers in UK start with 77) but yeah, no country code, no local code etc.

    Any other thoughts?

    Thanks Matt.

    Will

    • Matt says:

I’ll look into it more tonight and see if I can figure it out…

      Thanks,
      Matt

    • Matt says:

will, try putting 44 in front of the number, however, it looks like o2 might charge .10p everytime you get one of these? i quote:

” I recently found out that O2 do have a very handy email to SMS gateway which can be switched on.

When switched on, you receive an SMS stating:
“Your E-mail service is now on and your address is +44…@mmail.co.uk

It makes no effort to inform you that this service, free on several other networks and the US, costs around 10p per email to receive, instead of either being free or even included in your monthly SMS allowance (yes, I am aware that is primarily for sending, not receiving). I only discovered this because I happened to look at my recent charges to check something else and have immediately switched the service off.”

so it looks like it’s def possible, but they still charge you maybe?

      sorry,
      matt

  3. Becky says:

When I send an SMS to the Philippines doesit cost the person I’m sending it to?

    • Matt says:

it would cost them 1 sms message. if they have an sms plan it would “deduct” 1 sms from their plan.

      thanks,
      matt

  4. Randy says:

Help! I just installed the new version and now I keep getting yahoo failure notices! It was working fine with the older version, can I get that back?

    • Matt says:

Randy, make sure the number u r choosing from your phone book is a full 10 digit phone number area code and number, with no number 1 in front of it

      Matt

  5. John says:

Hi Matt, I’m having a problem sending SMS to Philippines, everytime I send a message, it always failed and it say’s “they coudnt find any host named mysmart.mymobile.ph. Help please.thank you.

    • Matt says:

      John,

Please use the “Use iphone/ipod email” settings and when it comes up, your gonna have to change the address to : mysmart.com.ph

this is just a temporary “work around”, they changed it on us, we have already submitted an update to apple, just waiting for them to approve it.

      sorry for the confusion!

      thanks,
      matt

  6. Cee Wade says:

I just downloaded the new version of the free SMS and now it shuts down completely with some ppl I try to text. Any help please? I like this app and would hate to have to delete it.
    Kind regards

    • Matt says:

I need more details, like the exact process u go thru to get it to crash, an example phone number, etc… Please email to hfidevelopmentsupport@gmail.com and I’ll look into it and get it fixed…also if it’s truly crashing when you connect to iTunes, it will ask if you want to send crash logs to the developers of apps, say yes and I should get them.

      Thanks,
      Matt

  7. Tyler says:

What if i’m unsure of my friends UK carrier. I’ve been finding a text app that works for UK. But for this app i don’t know which carrier my friend is using. And worse still i don’t know which ones are for UK service. Or i could just try my luck at all UK services. Help please?

    • Matt says:

Obviously you could try them all, you may get “invalid address/phone number” emails back. But u must know the carrier to get the message there,

      sorry,
      Matt

  8. Tyler says:

As in would u reveal carriers are for UK etc? at least i won’t have to try every single carrier out. Its a good idea to update that. 😀

  9. Sven says:

    Hi there.

Happy to help beta test the uk networks. Initially have tried to send to myself and to my girlfriend – both got returned?!

One was o2 and one was vodafone.

Any ideas? I’d imagine u’d get a silly amount of downloads if this actually works!!

    Cheers

    Sven

    • Matt says:

Sven, try putting a 0 in front of the vodafone number and remember to dial the rest like it would be a local call. I’ll doubl check o2 later on tonight once I get home.

      Thanks,
      Matt

  10. Sven says:

Tried all kinds of combos of adding 00 removing the first zero etc and although it says sent successfully none have been received and just loads of mail delivery failure notifications?! Happy to try other methods just let me know…

    • Matt says:

sven, here is what i have found:

orange, tmobile, virgin mobile, and vodafone use the 0n format where n is the phone number. o2 uses 44n, where n is the phone number. can u send some of the returned emails to hfidevelopmentsupport@gmail.com? it might shed some light on what’s going on.

      thanks,
      matt

    • Matt says:

      sven,

basically, take off the preceding 0 off the number, put a 44 on the front. but the problem is the person on o2 has to “turn” it on by sending a text to 212 with “ON” in the sms. but the other problem is it looks like o2 is trying to charge for this service, here in the states they don’t charge for it, not sure why o2 is?

      matt

  11. Amjad says:

    • Matt says:

      amjad,

if you type in the 10 digit phone number(US) of the person you are trying to text and pick the correct carrier it should go through without any problems.

      thanks,
      matt
